Patience, Grasshopper

Late in the afternoon, I found some critters. Mostly moths and butterflies ... and yes, the hummingbird DID make a couple of cameo appearances (is that even possible? can more than one appearance be considered a cameo, long as they both were incredibly, annoyingly brief?!) ... with a guest-starring role for another insect.

That last butterfly — a cloudless sulphur, I believe — is not as green as it appears to be; matter of fact, it is a rather cheerful shade of lemon yellow. I think of the cloudless as “the potato chip butterfly” because that is what it reminds me of, flapping its wings as it flies erratically all around the yard, acting as if it is going to land on this flower or that but then flitting away. (It actually hung in this fern for a couple of minutes, but I was having some focusing issues and managed to get only one decent shot. I like to think it thinks it is camouflaged, somehow!)

: )

As I mentioned, the hummingbird made 2 brief appearances — and then, while I was sitting on the back porch, 2 hummingbirds went soaring past!

I was just about to have a major fume when I looked over and, unexpectedly, saw this creature sitting atop my car.
