Roland Garros

Yesterday, I awoke @ 9:30 a.m., and all of a sudden, I thought, French Open! And I remembered that the women’s final was on, so I raced to the living room and turned on the TV, just in time to see Bud Collins interviewing Mary Pierce — who, obviously, had lost, quite soundly, just as I had predicted, to Justine Henin-Hardenne (whom Teresa likes to refer to as Henin Hard-on, not because she doesn’t like her, but just ... well, because).

Today, I did the same thing, only this time, Roland Garros had totally slipped my mind (it pains me to say that I have only managed to watch about 20 minutes of it over the past 2 weeks); luckily, though, I called The Lovely, and she informed me that the first set of the men’s final was in a tiebreak.

Rafael Nadal vs. Mariano Puerta. A couple of lefties going at it, from Spain and Argentina, respectively — though Nadal, I hear, is actually a right-hander who plays lefty. No clue, at this moment, which player will win, though Nadal leads 2 sets to 1 ... and the boy is going to be a star.

Watch for him. He’s the kid with a headband and the long-long shorts, which look like a cross between football pants and pedal-pushers. Gotta LOVE that!

: )

I went to the French Open in 2001.
